Backlash

A strong feeling among a group of people in reaction to a change or recent events in society or politics

Example: the backlash against feminism

Bounce

To rebound after having struck an object or a surface

Example: This made the plane bounce back up into the air

Buttress

To make someone or something stronger by supporting them in some way

Example: Family law no longer makes any attempt to BUTTRESS the stability of marriage

fr: Contrefort, soutient

Careen

To move swiftly and in an uncontrolled way.

Example: The driver lost control of his car when the brakes failed, and it went careening down the hill.

Crosshairs

Two thin wires crossing each other in a gun or other device, which you use to help you aim at something:

Example: A sniper had them in his crosshairs.

Debunk

Is a person or organization that attempts to expose or discredit claims that are allegedly false, exaggerated or pretentious

Example: It was the enlightment movement sought to debunk this basis of power

fr: Discréditer quelque chose ou quelqu'un

Despicable

It's someone who deserving hatred and contempt.

Example: Crassus on the other hand was DESPICABLE in his lust for money

fr: Méprisable, abject

Embed

To fix (an object) firmly and deeply in a surrounding mass.

Example: This is because 'if exercises to help EMBED declarative knowledge in the mind are rushed

fr: Integrer, enchasser, enfoncer

Limo

A large, expensive car, often driven by a chauffeur (= a person employed to drive a car for someone else); short for limousine

Example: He got the limo to drive backwards up an alley to avoid people trying to follow

Loathsome

When you talk about a person who loathsome you, you are indicating how much you dislike them or how much they disgust you.

Example: While the people of Canaan were an example of loathsome.

Peer

Look with difficulty or concentration at someone or something.

fr: Regarder attentivement, dévisager

Spokesman

It's a person who makes statements on behalf of a group or individual.

Example: Malcom became the main spokesman for the compagny

fr: Porte-parole
